Novak Djokovic's wife Jelena recently revisited an incredible point played by the Serb and Rafael Nadal in the final of the 2013 ATP Finals. She also heaped praise on her husband's mentality, which allowed him not just to win the point, but also the match and with it, the year-end title 12 years back.
At the time the point began, the eighth game of the first set was ongoing. Nadal was on serve, but it was the Serb who held the advantage. The Spaniard hit a wide serve, which the Serb kept in play with a looping return. Next, Nadal forced Djokovic well wide to the other side, but once again, the ball came back. This time, the Spaniard had to scamper back beyond the baseline to keep the point going.
Displaying exceptional tennis IQ, Novak Djokovic hit a smooth volley, which forced Rafael Nadal forward. A brief exchange at the net followed, with the point ultimately going the Serb's way even though when it started, it seemed like the Spaniard had the upper hand. The Serb, as soon as the point was over, roared aloud, with the crowd in London's O2 Arena wildly cheering both the players on.
Jelena, who at the time was engaged to the Serb, recently shared a video of the incredible point as an Instagram Story. The post's caption perfectly summed up how Djokovic never throws in the towel, even when the odds seem stacked against him.
"Never give up mentality," Jelena captioned the post.

The Serb eventually won the match 6-3, 6-4 to win the ATP Finals (known officially as the ATP World Tour Finals at the time) for the third time in his career. Djokovic and Jelena got married the next year, and the Serb would go on to win the prestigious year-end title four more times, with his most recent title triumph at the event coming in 2023.
Novak Djokovic withdrew from the ATP Finals 2025 with a shoulder injury

The Serb, a former World No. 1 and 24-time Major champion, won his 101st career singles title at the 2025 Hellenic Championship in Athens, Greece, with a comeback victory against Lorenzo Musetti in the final.
The 38-year-old had qualified for this year's edition of the ATP Finals, but in the immediate aftermath of his success in Athens, withdrew from the year-end event citing an ongoing shoulder problem.
Interestingly, it was Musetti who secured an ATP Finals berth in Turin, Italy, in the Serb's absence. This 2025 edition of the year-end tournament went Jannik Sinner's way. The Italian, who won the title last year, retained it in dominant fashion. He didn't drop a set along the way and defeated fierce rival Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
