The ATP season will wrap up with the Next Gen ATP Finals 2025, which will run from December 17-21. The tournament will take place at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
After a gruelling year on the road, eight youngsters eager to prove their mettle will duke it out over the week to end the season on a high. The tournament has often served as a stepping stone to success on the ATP tour.
As such, this year's participants will be keen to put their best foot forward. On that note, here's everything to know about this year's edition of the Next Gen ATP Finals:
Next Gen ATP Finals 2025: Selection Criteria, Players, Seedings
The qualifying process for the Next Gen ATP Finals is similar to the ATP Finals. The year's eight best performing players are eligible to compete, as long as they're aged 20 years or below. Based on this criteria, the eight players to qualify for this year's edition are Learner Tien, Alexander Blockx, Dino Prizmic, Martin Landaluce, Nikolai Budkov Kjaer, Nishesh Basavareddy, Rafael Jodar, and Justin Engel.
Joao Fonseca was the defending champion and eligible to compete this year as well but withdrew from the tournament. Jakub Mensik also pulled out, and would've been the top seed otherwise. That honor now goes to World No. 28 Tien, the only top 100 player in the field this time. Blockx, Prizmic, Landaluce, Budkov Kjaer, Basavareddy, Jodar, and Engel are seeded second to eighth respectively.
Next Gen ATP Finals 2025: Format and Draw

The eight players are evenly divided into two groups of four. The top two players from each group progress to the semifinals, and the winners advance to the final. However, the matches themselves follow a different set of rules.
Each match is a best-of-five sets contest. The first player to win four games takes the set, and there's a tie-break at 3-3. The tie-break follows the usual scoring system. Additionally, there's no-ad scoring either.
There are other changes as well to increase the tempo of the matches. There's no change of ends after the first game of the set, and the players will change ends every six points in the tie-break. They will be allowed to sit for 90 seconds instead of the usual 120 seconds at the end of a set.
Players have been divided into the Blue Group and Red Group for this year's edition. Tien, Landaluce, Budkov Kjaer, and Jodar are part of the Blue Group. Blockx, Prizmic, Basavareddy, and Engel comprise the Red Group.
Next Gen ATP Finals: Past Winners
Chung Hyeon won the inaugural edition in 2017. Three of today's most successful players reigned supreme over the subsequent editions. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner won the title in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
The 2020 edition was canned due to the pandemic, following which Carlos Alcaraz took home the trophy in 2021. Brandon Nakashima (2022), Hamad Medjedovic (2023), and Joao Fonseca (2024) are the most recent champions.
