Taylor Fritz, Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe recently shared their thoughts on the future of tennis. The American stars highlighted the need of a ‘liveable wage' for more players and spoke about growing the sport in the upcoming years.

Overall, tennis saw some dramatic growth over the course of the 2025 season. The US Open saw a hefty prize purse, as winners in the men's and women's singles event walked away with $5 million. Later in the year, titleists at the ATP and WTA Finals won a similar amount.

Recently, in a press conference ahead of the Charlotte Invitational, Taylor Fritz reflected on the growth of tennis in recent years, saying,

“I think things are going well, you see increases every year in prize money and growth. But I also think there's a lot of room for improvement. I think there's ways we could do things better to just make this overall package that we have better, easier to follow for fans, which I think would help grow the sport.”

Meanwhile, Madison Keys emphasised that lower-ranked players in the sport still struggle to make a ‘liveable wage',

“I still think that there's room to grow, but I would love to see tennis be able to support more people. I know that obviously the top earners are taking the majority of the prize money and it's a very expensive sport, it's very difficult to get into, to sustain it, to support it. So I think in my opinion, in the future of tennis, it would be amazing if we could grow the sport so that it was a livable wage for more people in the sport.”

Frances Tiafoe showed his agreement with Keys, adding,

“I definitely agree with Madi. I think over time, we continue to get closer and closer to where it's (like) more people can choose it as a profession and you don't have to be one of the best players in the world to make a real nice living. I think overall prize money seems to be going higher, I like where the game's going.”

Keys and Williams faced off against each other in a women's singles encounter, with the former clinching a victory over the veteran. This marks Keys’ second-consecutive time defeating Williams, with the 30-year-old having beaten her compatriot at the National Bank Open earlier this year.

Up next, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe will face off against each other at the Spectrum Centre in North Carolina.
