Lorenzo Musetti gave a candid account of what he went through during his partner Veronica Confalonieri's first pregnancy. Musetti said the pregnancy was unplanned and it sparked "doubts and problems" in his life.
In an interview with d la Repubblica, the Italian World No. 8 cast his mind back to his feelings after his partner Veronica became pregnant with the couple's first child in 2023.
"The first child was an earthquake and a wonderful surprise. It wasn't planned, but we decided to keep him: I had to rethink my life. I was afraid I wasn't ready for the changes. There was a family to build, a house to change, to expand, to accept the responsibilities."
Lorenzo Musetti subsequently explained that he experienced significant inner "turmoil" over being a professional tennis player, a loving partner and a doting father all at the same time.
"It wasn't easy, it created doubts and problems for me, I experienced Veronica's pregnancy with a lot of turmoil. In my head and in my results. It bothered me to be judged negatively by the fans, as if becoming a father meant turning your back on sports, giving other priorities, feeling already fulfilled. For me family is important, but so is tennis," the Italian added.
"I don't see children as an obstacle" - Lorenzo Musetti on how fatherhood has coincided with improved on-court results

In the same interview, Lorenzo Musetti shed light on how he adapted to fatherhood and how, ultimately, it has paid dividends, with numerous impressive performances across tournaments. Looking forward to son Ludovico's second birthday in March 2026, the Italian said:
"Becoming a parent gave me an extra push, what I experienced off the court made me mature on it. There's a human journey of mine that has grown alongside the professional one, I don't see children as an obstacle. Proof of that is that Ludovico will turn two in March and for me this has been the best season. Long, grueling, but full of rewards."
The Musetti family is set to grow further with the arrival of their second child.
On the tennis front, Musetti broke into the top 10 in 2025 and made his debut at the year-end ATP Finals in Turin. However, despite vociferous support from the Italian crowd, Musetti exited the tournament after losing two of his three round robin matches.
