Daniil Medvedev has stated that he will not be overly concerned if his tennis career is affected by his growing family. The Russian has two daughters, Alisa, born in October 2022, and Victoria, born in January, with his wife, Daria Medvedeva.
Following his first-round win against Cameron Norrie at the China Open in Beijing, Medvedev responded to questions about balancing his career and his personal life.
"I don't have an answer to your question about expanding family," Medvedev said. "I definitely love my two daughters, I love my wife. It's not a problem for me. Even if I play tennis worse because I have a second daughter, I'm happy about it and I don't care. For sure I was concerned. I'm still concerned. I'm trying to find a way to show everyone that I'm capable of doing big things again."
The Russian has not won a title this season, dropping to No. 18 in the rankings. He suffered first-round exits in three of the four Slams.
Daniil Medvedev on his upcoming match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
During his press conference, Daniil Medvedev was also questioned about his clash with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round of the China Open. The Russian admitted that the Spaniard is in better form, but said he would try to find his best game and cause problems.
"I feel like I like to play in a way against him," Medvedev said. "I think my game matches up against his. He's in better form right now. It's not even about the points. He had probably more victories lately than I did.
"He got unlucky in Washington. Actually we played a serious exhibition match and I won. I will try to play my best. He's a very strong player. I know if I want to beat him, I need to be at my best, and I'll try to do it."
Medvedev leads the head-to-head with Davidovich Fokina 4-1, but lost their most recent encounter in Montreal last year in three sets.
