Coco Gauff's father, Corey, rushed to the defense of her daughter as she continued to garner criticism regarding her serve. The young American enjoyed considerable success in 2025, winning her second Major title at the French Open. She also won the Wuhan Open, and was the runner-up in Madrid and Rome.
Despite the highs, there were also some lows, particularly with respect to Gauff's serve. She was dogged by frequent double faults, which cost her some matches. She ultimately finished the season with 431 double faults, the most on the tour. The issues with her serve have been discussed ad nauseam, so when a tennis page highlighted the fact, her father was frustrated that the topic was brought up once again.
Gauff's father acknowledged that her serve is something to work upon. He further reiterated that she's one of the hardest working players on the tour, and she will bounce back from this setback as soon as the next season.
"Relax it’s a stat and a fact and an area to improve she will improve she always does the work doesn’t lie … will be hard to find someone working harder than her on her game …. 2026 she coming !!!!" Corey Gauff on Instagram.

Gauff has already commenced her training for the upcoming season. She recently shared an update on social media stating she's back on the practice courts. While quite a few of her peers will be busy with various exhibition events in December, she won't be back in action until 2026.
Coco Gauff to begin the 2026 season at the United Cup

Coco Gauff will kick off 2026 by participating in the United Cup. She will lead her team's title defense alongside compatriot Taylor Fritz. She was instrumental in their triumph in 2025, remaining unbeaten across singles and doubles to clinch the title.
Gauff will then turn her attention to the Australian Open. She's a former semifinalist at the season's first Major, going down to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka in the 2024 edition. She fell one round short of matching her best result in 2025, losing to Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals.
Gauff will be the third seed at the Australian Open 2026. She won't face her chief rivals, Sabalenka or Iga Swiatek, before the semifinals. The 21-year-old will be gunning to capture the third Major title of her career, and her first Down Under.
