Coco Gauff opened up about what she loves most about Naomi Osaka and explained why she plans to emulate the Japanese player. The American is currently enjoying her time away from the court.
Amid her off-season, Gauff sat for a conversation with Women's Wear Daily. Here, she was asked about the intricacies of her choices in various fields. One of the significant aspects was fashion on the court, and she was asked about who she thinks has great style in the tennis circuit.
Replying to it, she took Osaka's name, stating that she does a great job of being creative. Explaining her style and opening up about her plan of copying her, Coco Gauff said:
“I really like Naomi Osaka’s oufits. She does a great job of being creative and doing things that haven’t been done. We’re always looking at each other. Her style is more camp, which is cool. Maybe someday I’ll try and do something campy."
In addition to this, she also revealed that when it comes to fashion, she only listens to her boyfriend.
“The only person I take seriously is my boyfriend. He gives good advice. I am going to a music festival, and I was trying on outfits on the phone with him," she added.
Gauff also discussed her first encounter with fashion and how she got introduced to it.
Coco Gauff opens up about her first core fashion memory
In the same interview, Coco Gauff was also asked about her first core fashion memory. Opening up about being obsessed with visors, she recalled that her mother came up with the 'IROC' logo, which is her real name spelled backwards. Revealing how her mother made custom visors, she said:
“[Early on], I was obsessed with visors. My real name is Cori, and my mom came up with this ‘IROC’ logo, which is Cori spelled backwards. She made custom visors - I had at least 20 colors - and custom towels, so I would match my visor to the towel that I would use for the match, and I also had a bow in my hair. That was my first experiment with fashion - I was 6 or 7 years old. My mom might still have the visors. I still have the towels. Later, I decided to name my production company after that logo," said Coco Gauff.
Coco Gauff wrapped up her season after competing at the WTA Finals in Riyadh. She reached the third group stage, where she faced Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated the American and progressed to the semifinals.
