Coco Gauff named her top WTA players and it's no surprise that she put Serena Williams at No. 1. Gauff ended her season at the WTA Finals, but couldn't repeat her 2024 feat in Riyadh.

Coco Gauff has been a precocious talent, making strides on the tour from a very young age, having drawn inspiration from Serena and Venus Williams while growing up. Gauff often expresses her admiration for the sisters and how their redefining of tennis for Black women was pathbreaking and helped forge a way for the next generation to follow.

The 21-year-old recently appeared in a conversation on TNT Sports, where she was asked to name her top five WTA players. She chose the legendary Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, and Steffi Graf, placed Venus Williams second from the top, and named Serena Williams as her GOAT. She also reasoned why she placed the 23-time Grand Slam winner at the prime.

"I think I'm just gonna name people and forget the order. I'm definitely thinking Chris Everett is up there, Martina Navratilova for sure, and then Steffi Graf. I feel like I have to put Venus up there, and then number one for me, that's the only, this is the only position that's not interchangeable is for sure Serena Williams. I think that she's obviously the greatest, and I think that her mindset, her athletic ability, her power, her personality and like presence that she led in the sport, I think is very inspiring, so to me that's why she's my favorite."

Gauff's 2023 US Open title made her the second teenager to triumph in a Major since Serena Williams in 1999.

Coco Gauff has been supported by her father, Corey Gauff, since the beginning. And, it was him who introduced her to the sport and handed her a tennis racket. Speaking on Rolex YouTube series “Game Changer”, Corey shared how everything started after watching Serena Williams win her fifth Grand Slam title in Melbourne in 2010.

“I remember saying, ‘Man, she’s going to be the GOAT’. And [Coco] said, ‘What is the GOAT?’ And I said, ‘That’s the Greatest of All Time’, and she’s like, ‘I want to be a GOAT!' So I ran out and bought her a racquet. That’s how it all started," he said.

Gauff matched a unique feat of the legend this year. She posted a perfect 9-of-9 record in the hard-court finals, becoming the first player since Williams to achieve so.
