Chris Evert recently reacted to Frances Tiafoe's candid explanation of why he decided to do away with his entire coaching team after a disappointing 2025 tennis season for the American ATP star. Tiafoe, reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 10 back in 2023, is currently ranked No. 30.

Tiafoe was one of the high-profile names who featured at the recent Charlotte Invitational exhibition event. In the buildup to his match against compatriot Taylor Fritz at the event, the former No. 10 was asked by the media why he chose to shake up his entire team after deciding to put an early end to his competitive outings in his underwhelming 2025 season.

In response, Frances Tiafoe explained that he wants to step out of his comfort zone and see if his career trajectory changes for the better. The 27-year-old American, despite his undeniable on-court abilities, has struggled to maintain peak form on a consistent basis.

"I mean, I got rid of more than just two guys. I just wanted a fresh start. We have been doing the same thing for a very long time. I’ll be 28 at the top of the year, and I kind of just want to do something different. I want to get a little bit uncomfortable and just see what happens. Why not?," Tiafoe said.

He also urged the media to be patient with regards to the people he chooses to rope in for the upcoming tennis season, adding:

"I don’t think there is anything bad that can come out of that. As far as what is going forward, I guess you guys will have to wait and see. Wait and see who I decide to bring with me and go on this crazy journey that we call life."

Frances Tiafoe dropped the first set in his Charlotte Invitational clash against Taylor Fritz, but managed to square things up by clinching the second. Impressively, Tiafoe won the third set tiebreak to ultimately register a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory against his compatriot and good friend.

Next, at A Racquet At The Rock exhibiton in New Jersey, the American clashed against reigning World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz. Here, he once again emerged victorious, downing the Spaniard 3-6, 6-3, 10-7.

Even though the wins over Fritz and Alcaraz won't make any difference to his ranking, Frances Tiafoe's confidence is surely going to be boosted thanks to two consecutive victories against two top ten players in the buildup to the 2026 season.
