Carlos Alcaraz joked about his shock early Paris Masters exit days ahead of ATP Finals appearance in Turin. The Spaniard lost in the second round at the final Masters 1000 event of the season.

Alcaraz played at the Paris Masters last week and faced a surprising end. The World No. 1 faced Cameron Norrie in his campaign opener and was ousted by the Brit 6-4, 3-6, 4-6. This came after he was on an 18-match winning streak in all ATP Tour-level matches.

Days later, while preparing for the ATP Finals, Alcaraz was congratulated for one of his previous titles by a player on the court. They also added:

"I didn't see you in Paris."

Alcaraz hilariously responded:

"Well, I didn't last long either... Paris at this time of the year isn't our thing."

Paris, however, has been far more rewarding for the Spaniard in June. Alcaraz has claimed back-to-back French Open titles on the city’s clay courts and also captured the silver medal at the Paris Olympics last August.

His response does indicate that he has moved on from the disappointing loss at the Paris Masters. The 22-year-old will be looking to make an impact at the upcoming ATP Finals.

Carlos Alcaraz has been placed in the Jimmy Connors Group at the Nitto ATP Finals 2025 in Turin. He will face Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, and Alex de Minaur in the Round Robin stage. Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, and Felix Auger-Aliassime, or Lorenzo Musetti, will be part of the Bjorn Borg group.

This year, Alcaraz has enjoyed a standout season. He has collected two major titles, the French Open and the US Open. He also claimed key Masters 1000 wins and has maintained one of the best win-loss records on tour.

Carlos Alcaraz has played at the ATP Finals twice before. He reached the semifinal in 2023 and was ousted from the event in the Round Robin stage last year.

The group and tournament hold further significance because the year-end No. 1 ranking is still at stake. Sinner must defend his ATP Finals title to stay in contention for the year-end No. 1 ranking, but the outcome also depends on Alcaraz’s results.

If Sinner wins the title undefeated, Alcaraz must win all his group matches to stay No. 1. If Sinner drops one group match, Alcaraz needs two group wins. If Sinner somehow wins the title after going 1-2 in the group stage, Alcaraz needs only one group win. Overall, Alcaraz remains in a stronger position to finish.
