Jannik Sinner has had it easy when the opposition player's name is not Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard remains a troublesome opponent for Sinner over the last two years.

Meanwhile, the six-time Grand Slam champion has taken losses from several players but he holds a better record against Sinner, whom he defeated in the 2025 US Open and in Roland Garros as well. The Italian admitted after the US Open loss that he needs to alter his game so to get an edge over Alcaraz.

As such, Alcaraz understands why Sinner is making changes in his game so that he could do well when he faces the Spaniard again. In his recent interview with Marca, Alcaraz said:

"He's lost two or three matches in the last two years, and the vast majority of them have been against me. Jannik has to see and think about what he needs to improve to beat the player he hasn't been able to beat more often. It's logical and normal. I have lost to more players, but my focus is on trying to improve and do things so that the next time we face each other I'll be a much better player."

Alcaraz and Sinner recently collided in the 2025 ATP Finals where the Italian defended the title at his home ground.

Carlos Alcaraz praises Novak Djokovic's performance while admitting domination with Jannik Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have shared the last eight Grand Slams in tennis. Many believe a new rivalry has taken a center stage following the departure of 'Big Three' members. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have retired while Novak Djokovic hasn't won a major title since 2023 even though he made it to the semifinals each time in 2025 Grand Slam tournaments.

During his interview with Marca, Alcaraz was asked if there was a change in era led by Sinner and him. The Spaniard first acknowledged Djokovic's consistent performances before admitting the fact. He said:

"Well, Djokovic is still playing. The years go by, but Djokovic is still there, he's number four in the world and has reached the semifinals of every Grand Slam. He has the level and the motivation, because his body allows it, to keep competing and to keep being at the top level.

"It's true that, in recent years, both Jannik and I have been the ones who have been most present, along with others. But mentally, it's just the two of us. It may be that we're passing the torch to another generation."

It remains to be seen whether a new challenger arrives to become the third wheel of this rivalry.
