Former British tennis player Laura Robson recently warned that Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner's growing dominance will make the ATP feel a bit monotonous. Robson's remarks came after Alcaraz joined Sinner in the ongoing ATP Finals 2025 semifinals on Thursday, November 13.
Both Alcaraz and Sinner dominated the 2025 season, sharing the World No. 1 spot and four Majors. The Spaniard's most recent win against Lorenzo Musetti in Turin also secured him the Year-End No. 1. Sinner, who has lost just six matches in 2025, is set to finish as the No. 2 in the ATP singles rankings after the season-ending event in Turin.
Meanwhile, as Novak Djokovic's advancing age affects his performances, the gap between Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and the rest of the field is widening. Fans and pundits continue to laud the growing rivalry between the current World No. 1 and No. 2, but are also demanding more competition. Robson, the former World No. 27 WTA singles player, recently stated that others should step up to make it more competitive, adding that the two-man race will eventually become a dull affair.
Speaking live on Sky Sports, Laura Robson said (quotes via We Love Tennis):
“Suddenly, we have two players who have transcended their sport, who are very different on the court, very different off the court, and who have two contrasting personalities that bring out the best in each other when they are on the court. Yes, we are very lucky. We hope that someone will come closer and make the race a little more competitive, because a two-man race will eventually become a bit monotonous.”
Notably, barring Carlos Alcaraz, only two players have defeated Jannik Sinner in 2025. The Italian has also dominated Alexander Zverev three times in the last few weeks, widening the gap between the World No. 2 and No. 3 in the ATP singles rankings by over 5000 points, signaling a clear two-man race for the top spot next season.
Laura Robson tips Jack Draper to compete with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in 2026
Laura Robson recently named Jack Draper to close the gap between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner and the rest of the field in 2026. The current top-ranked British player was one of seven players to defeat Alcaraz and the only player, apart from Alcaraz and Sinner, to reach the Masters finals twice this season.
The 23-year-old claimed his first Masters title, the Indian Wells Open 2025, to enter the top 10 in ATP singles rankings. After reaching the Madrid semifinals in May, he became the first British player since Andy Murray to storm into the top 5 rankings. Unfortunately, an arm injury during the second-round match at the US Open ended his season early and pushed him down to No. 10 in the rankings.
However, Jack Draper's breakout 2025 season caught Laura Robson's attention, who believes that the former could challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner for the top spot next year. Speaking on a Sky Sports show last month, Robson said:
"I don't see why not. I think the trouble for Jack at the moment is just that he's not been healthy enough and consistently across the season to compete with them in terms of ranking. Especially in a best-of-three, we've seen him beat Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells this year."
For the record, Jack Draper holds a 1-1 head-to-head record against Jannick Sinner and 2-4 against Carlos Alcaraz.
