Carlos Alcaraz could not play at the Davis Cup Finals this year, but that has not stopped Team Spain's juggernaut. On Thursday, they took the Czechia contingent to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

Alcaraz was in action at the ATP Finals last week, where he sustained an injury in the final against Jannik Sinner. Although he initially said he was planning on representing Spain this week, he had to eventually withdraw under the advice of his medical team.

“Things don’t always turn out the way you want. Now I have to go back home and recover as soon as possible so I can be there for preseason and start the year in the best way possible. I will be supporting the team from home," Alcaraz said later on about the withdrawal.

In his absence, Jaume Munar assumed the role of the leader, beating Jiri Lehecka after Pablo Carreno Busta went down against Jakub Mensik. Then, Marc Granollers and Pedro Martinez won their doubles rubber to seal the tie, beating Tomas Machac and Mensik for a 2-1 result.

Alcaraz, despite his absence, was watching the match from afar, and took to social media to show his support for his Davis Cup teammates. The World No. 1 posted a picture of himself watching the match on TV at his home and cheering on his fellow Spaniards.

Interestingly, one standout detail in the picture turned out to be story of the day on social media. Fans noticed the US Open trophy and the Wimbledon trophy at the edge of the photo, drawing amused reactions.

"Trophies overcrowding the place like wdym you’re watching tv and at the same time you have the US Open and Wimbledon trophies in sight ? Oh goatcaraz," one fan wrote.

Despite his final loss at the ATP Finals to Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz has ended the season as the World No. 1. The Spaniard needed to win three group matches to do so, and he did it by beating Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur and Lorenzo Musetti.

Alcaraz won two Grand Slams this season, the French Open and the US Open. He won eight titles overall in 2025, his last coming at the Japan Open back in September.
