Amanda Anisimova has shared her heartbreak after learning about the mass shooting incident on Sunday (14 December) in Australia, during a gathering of the Jewish community at Bondi Beach. The mass shooting incident took place during a Hanukkah celebration, with reports emerging that at least 11 people died.

According to news reports, there were two shooters at the location directing sustained fire at people in attendance, with one shooter getting killed after six minutes. The second shooter continued fire for a few more seconds before being subdued.

Shocked by the incident, Amanda Anisimova shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, writing:

"When will it end.. was one of the thoughts. But we've been thinking that for far too long.. My prayers go out to all those affected."

She added an emoji of the Aussie flag alongside the American flag.

Alongside Amanda Anisimova, Australia's No. 2 on the WTA side, Daria Kasatkina, also shared her emotional reaction on Instagram, dropping a heartbreak emoji along with the Aussie flag emoji.

New South Wales police commissioner Mal Lanyon has gone on record calling the attack a terrorist plot, saying that an 'improvised explosive device' was found in a car nearby linked to one of the shooters.

"The fact that it is the first day of Hannukah, the types of weapons... some of the other items we found at the scene - as I said, we have found the improvised explosive device in a car which is linked to the deceased offender," Commissioner Lanyon said via AOL.

The attack in Australia comes days before the start of the 2026 tennis season, which will get underway in the first week of January in the country.

Meanwhile, King Charles III and Queen Camilla have also come out in condemnation of the shooting in Bondi Beach, extending their heartfelt condolences to the people affected in a statement, along with Amanda Anisimova.

"Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected so dreadfully, including the police officers who were injured while protecting members of their community," he said via the BBC.
"In times of hurt, Australians always rally together in unity and resolve. I know that the spirit of community and love that shines so brightly in Australia - and the light at the heart of the Chanukah festival - will always triumph over the darkness of such evil," he added.

Sunday marked the first night of Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of Light. The festival lasts for eight days.
