Mirra Andreeva has shared a key lesson she learned from her experience of the 2025 season after failing to qualify for the singles category of the year-end WTA Finals. Andreeva was quite close to securing her place for the prestigious year-end event's singles competition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, some misfortune combined with other factors ultimately ruled the 18-year-old Russian out of contention. The first half of Andreeva's 2025 season was full of successes, with the teenager reaching a career-high World No. 5 in the WTA Tour's singles rankings during this period. However, the second half was full of disappointments, but even so, she was in the running to qualify for the WTA Finals. Unfortunately, she was denied a visa for the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.Meanwhile, the Russian's WTA rival Jasmine Paolini controversially avoided a ranking points deduction even though she didn't play her share of six mandatory WTA 500 events. The Italian's Adelaide International withdrawal on medical grounds was pardoned based on a WTA rule, allowing her to pip Mirra Andreeva for the eighth and final WTA Finals qualifying spot.Andreeva though, did make it to Riyadh courtesy of her qualification for the women's doubles category. Recently, the 18-year-old, while in Riyadh, was asked about what she learned from her chastening WTA Finals singles qualification experience this year. The youngster promised that from next year onwards, she won't pay too much attention to qualifying for the year-end event."Yes if I get a chance to qualify for next year's (WTA) Finals, I will do everything that I can not to think about qualifying for the WTA Finals," Andreeva said.Instead, the Russian claimed that her approach going forward would be to take things one match at a time."So I'm just going to try to focus on every match that I get to play and that's it. Not thinking about qualifying for the (WTA) Finals," she added.Mirra Andreeva's doubles campaign at WTA Finals got off to disappointing startDiana Shnaider (left) and Mirra Andreeva (right) at the 2025 WTA Finals (Source: Getty)Mirra Andreeva and compatriot Diana Shnaider are the fifth seeds in the women's doubles draw at the 2025 WTA Finals. However, the Russians had to settle for a straight-set loss in their opening match at the year-end event, as Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski got the better of them with a commanding 6-3, 7-6(2) victory.Overall, 2025 has been a success story for Andreeva. The 18-year-old clinched back-to-back WTA 1000 titles at the Dubai Tennis Championships and then in Indian Wells. Her Indian Wells title triumph was, in particular, more special, as she defeated World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final. The youngster also reached the quarterfinals of this year's Wimbledon Championships; her best result spanning the four tennis Majors of 2025.
