Former American tennis pro Sam Querrey analyzed Carlos Alcaraz's chances at the ATP Finals 2025, and made a daring speculation to boot. This comes in light of his early exit from the recently concluded Paris Masters. The in-form Jannik Sinner is also breathing down on the Spaniard's neck, and the two will battle it out for the year-end No. 1 ranking at the ATP Finals.
In the latest episode of the Nothing Major podcast, Querrey, along with his fellow hosts John Isner, Steve Johnson, and Jack Sock, took stock of the battle brewing between Alcaraz and Sinner.
Sinner recently regained the No. 1 ranking from Alcaraz after winning the Paris Masters, while the latter slumped to a surprise loss to Cameron Norrie in the second round. This prompted Querrey to quiz his fellow hosts about Alcaraz's potential performance at the ATP Finals.
"Let me ask you guys this. Are you guys confident right now that Alcaraz just cruises out of group stage based on last week?" Querrey asked.
While Isner seemed doubtful, Johnson and Sock were confident of Alcaraz making it past the group stage at the very least. Querrey, on the other hand, was more skeptical of the young Spaniard's chances. However, he would certainly change his tune once the draw is out.
"I'm not either, and I don't want to be that guy that says, 'Oh, Alcaraz is not going to finish top five' like I did last year. I'm not sold that it's a guarantee that he gets out of group stage," Querrey said. "The groups aren't out yet, so that matters," he added.
Sinner is the defending champion at the ATP Finals, while Alcaraz is seeking his maiden title at the year-end championships. The year-end No. 1 ranking is also up for grabs, and the Spaniard is in pole position to claim it.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will fight for the year-end No. 1 ranking at the ATP Finals 2025

The 2025 season will mark a significant turning point in Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner's rivalry. They contested their first Major final against each other at the French Open, in which the Spaniard came out on top after saving three championship points.
Sinner avenged that loss a few weeks later in the Wimbledon final and brought an end to Alcaraz's two-year reign at the All England Club. The latter returned the favor when they met in the US Open final, beating his rival to end his title defense.
In a season where they've shared multiple big trophies, the stage is set for one last showdown for the ATP Finals 2025. Not only will they fight for the title but also the year-end No. 1 ranking.
Alcaraz will enter the tournament with a lead of 1,050 points over Sinner, thus tipping the scales in his favor. There are multiple scenarios for each to claim the top spot. With a lot on the line for the tour's two best players, this edition of the ATP Finals promises to be an exciting affair.
