Jelena Ostapenko won Porsche Tennis Grand Prix

Before Jelena Ostapenko brought home a Porsche, she brought a trophy sponsored by the luxurious car company. Earlier this year, at Stuttgart, Ostapenko won her ninth WTA singles title at the 2025 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. What's more notable she took down World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka to win the title.

Ostapenko defeated Sabalenka 6-4, 6-1 in the final. The Latvian star won 6 of 18 points in the second set down the stretch. With this win, Ostapenko rose in the WTA rankings and reclaimed a spot inside the top 20.

“I just tried to stay aggressive and play my game,” Ostapenko said after the match (via Tennis By Clement).

However, not everything was smooth sailing for Jelena Ostapenko in the later part of the 2025 season. She was involved in a heated verbal exchange with Taylor Townsend at the US Open in the second round. Ostapenko was unhappy with the American star following a net cord shot which went unacknowledged. She even accused Townsend of being "disrespectful" and lacking "class" education.

She received a lot of backlash for her comments, but she made it clear that she was not being racist while accusing Townsend.

“Wow how many messages I received that I am a racist. I was NEVER racist in my life and I respect all nations of people in the world, for me it doesn't matter where you come from. There are some rules in tennis and unfortunately when the crowd is with you you can't use it in disrespectful way to your opponent,” Ostapenko wrote.

“Unfortunately for me, coming from such a small country I don't have that huge support and a chance to play in homeland. I always loved to play in the US and US OPEN, but this is the first time someone is approaching the match this disrespectful way.”

Ostapenko rendered a public apology if her comments hurt the sentiments of some people.
