Learner Tien will take on lucky loser Moez Echargui in the second round of the Moselle Open 2025.

Tien was up against home favorite Ugo Blanchet in the first round. The American proved to be too good for his opponent, securing three breaks of serve during the match while never facing a single break point himself for a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Echargui initially lost to Luca Van Assche in the qualifying rounds but found a place in the Moselle Open main draw as a lucky loser. He received a bye into the second round on account of taking over second seed Daniil Medvedev's place in the draw. This will be his main draw debut at the ATP level.

After a strong Asian swing, Tien had a bit of a letdown at the Paris Masters, where he lost to Andrey Rublev in the second round. He advanced to his maiden final on the ATP Tour at the China Open a few weeks ago, going down to Jannik Sinner in straight sets.

Nevertheless, Tien's breakthrough season has been quite impressive. He has a chance to make his top 30 debut if he makes a deep run at the Moselle Open. He has already made a strong start to his campaign, dispatching Blanchet in his opener without a fuss. He lost only five points on serve throughout the match.

Echargui caught a lucky break to reach the second round after losing in the qualifiers. However, his journey is likely to end here. He has improved considerably this year, winning three Challenger titles to crack the top 150 of the rankings.
