First-round matches will conclude on Day 2 (Tuesday, October 28) of the Hong Kong Open 2025. Australians Maya Joint and Ajla Tomljanovic were among the winners on the first day.
While Tomljanovic dispatched Momoko Kobori in straight sets, Joint staged a comeback to beat former top 15 player Anastasija Sevastova. The second day of the tournament has some of the most well-known names on the tour in the mix.
Belinda Bencic, Sofia Kenin, and Leylah Fernandez, among others, will be in the fray on Tuesday. On that note, here are the predictions for the singles matches set for Day 2 of the Hong Kong Open 2025:
#1. Leylah Fernandez vs Wang Xiyu
After a mostly underwhelming season, Fernandez captured her first title in nearly two years at the Citi DC Open in July. After another brief period of disappointing results, she bounced back with her second title of the season at the Japan Women's Open. Her winning ways came to an end with a second-round loss to Elena Rybakina in Tokyo.
Wang has won only three main draw matches at the WTA level this season. Her first win came at the Australian Open. She waited over eight months for the next win, tasting success at the China Open in September. Her most recent win came at last week's Guangzhou Open.
Fernandez won the Hong Kong Open in 2023. She won her only prior meeting against Wang at the French Open 2024 in straight sets. Given the latter's form this season, the Canadian will be expected to win yet again.
Predicted winner: Leylah Fernandez in straight sets.
#2. Victoria Mboko vs Talia Gibson

After setting the ITF Tour on fire, Mboko set her sights on the WTA Tour. She had her breakthrough at the Canadian Open, claiming her maiden title at the WTA level in stunning fashion. Unfortunately, she couldn't sustain this level and failed to win a match in her next four tournaments.
Mboko rebounded with a quarterfinal finish at last week's Pan Pacific Open. Gibson has tallied only a couple of wins on the WTA Tour this season. She scored her first main draw win at the Australian Open, followed by another one at the WTA 250 in Cleveland. The Asian swing has been brutal for her so far, failing to even get out of the qualifying rounds of her past three tournaments.
Gibson has previously never beaten anyone in the top 50 in her career. While Mboko has struggled since her Canadian Open triumph, she will be expected to get through this clash.
Predicted winner: Victoria Mboko in three sets.
#3. Sorana Cirstea vs Dalma Galfi

#4. Sofia Kenin vs Himeno Sakatsume
Predicted winner: Sofia Kenin in straight sets.
