On the evening of Tuesday, December 2, an X (formerly Twitter) account with more than 100,000 followers posted the following:

"Carlos Alcaraz sparked controversy after announcing that he will not participate in the tennis "Pride Night," declaring: "This sport should focus solely on the results on the court, not on political issues or social movements."" (translated from Spanish)

At the time of writing this fact-check article, the post has been 'liked' over 45,000 times and has been reposted nearly 5,000 times. However, the fact of the matter is that there is no credible source containing the quotes attributed to Carlos Alcaraz in the post. Also, the same quotes have been previously attributed to other tennis stars such as Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner.

So, long story short, the six-time singles Major champion did not make any comment about participating in an LGBTQ-centric tennis event.

The World No. 1 is expected to begin intense training once more following a short break after the exhibition matches. Alcaraz had a stellar 2025 tennis season and is keen on winning next year's Australian Open. As reported by the Melbourne Major's official website, the Spaniard said:

"I think (the Australian Open is) going to be great. It's my first goal, to be honest. When I just go to the pre-seasons to what I want to improve, what I want to achieve, Australian Open is there. It's the first or second tournament of the year, and it is always the main goal for me to complete a career Grand Slam, calendar Grand Slam."

In Melbourne, Alcaraz has never made it beyond the quarterfinals. This year, he suffered a loss to Novak Djokovic at the same stage.
