Third seed Dino Prizmic will square off against Justin Engel in the group stage of the Next Gen ATP Finals 2025.

Prizmic kicked off his Next Gen ATP Finals campaign against Nishesh Basavareddy. After a strong start by both, the latter ran away with the first set courtesy of a three-game run.

Prizmic held three set points in the second set tie-break, which he failed to convert. Basavareddy, on the other hand, got the job done on his first set point to claim another set.

Prizmic rallied from a break down in the third set to force a tie-break, in which he came out on top to keep himself in contention. He went down an early break in the fourth set, from which he couldn't recover. Basavareddy maintained his composure until the end to score a 4-2, 4-3 (7), 3-4 (3), 4-2 win over Prizmic.

Engel was up against Alexander Blockx in his first match of the group stage. He missed a set point on his opponent's serve at 3-2 in the first set but got the job done in the tie-break to take a one-set lead.

However, that marked the end of the road for Engel. He failed to recoup a break deficit in each of the next three sets, thus slumping to a 3-4 (7), 4-2, 4-2, 4-2 loss at the hands of Blockx.

Having lost their respective openers, both players are in need of a win in order to remain alive in the tournament. Prizmic won 76 percent of his first serve points in his previous match, and struck 40 winners to 45 unforced errors. Engel, meanwhile, won 71 percent of points behind his first serve, and hit 14 winners against 29 unforced errors.

Prizmic has a 39-16 record across all levels this season, while Engel has put together a 37-33 record. The former also beat the latter for the loss of four games at the San Marino Challenger, their only career encounter at any level.

Prizmic's results do indicate that he's in better form compared to Engel. Both will be under immense pressure to win. However, the outcome of this match could ultimately favor the youngster from Croatia given his performances this season, and in the previous match.
