Aryna Sabalenka vs Elena Rybakina preview

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will lock horns with sixth seed Elena Rybakina in the final of the 2025 WTA Finals on Saturday.
Sabalenka won all three of her group stage matches, beating Jasmine Paolini, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff to reach the semifinals. She took on Amanda Anisimova for a spot in the championship round.
Both women threw the kitchen sink at each other in the first set. However, it was Sabalenka who came out on top, claiming the opener after an hour courtesy of two breaks of serve. Anisimova wasted no time in getting back on track, racing to a 4-0 lead in the second set.
While Anisimova dropped serve while serving for the set at 5-2, she broke back immediately to force a decider. They were evenly matched until halfway through the deciding set. Sabalenka raised her level from 2-3 down, sweeping the next four games for a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win.
Rybakina also remained unbeaten during the group phase, scoring wins over Anisimova, Iga Swiatek, and Ekaterina Alexandrova to make the last four. She took on Pegula in the semifinals. The American captured the first set to take command of the match.
Rybakina led by a break for most of the second set but faltered in her attempt to close it out at 5-3. She was quick to regroup, breaking back in the very next game to claim the set. She squandered her break advantage in the decider, only to recoup it for a 5-3 lead. She served out the match in the next game to complete a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback win.

The Kazakh won their encounter in Cincinnati in straight sets, although she blew four match points during their showdown on the grass courts of Berlin, their first meeting of the year.
Both are capable of generating immense power from the baseline, though Rybakina's serve gives her a slight edge. She also holds a 2-1 edge over Sabalenka in finals, coming out on top in the Brisbane International in 2024 and Indian Wells in 2023, while losing to the Belarusian in the Australian Open in 2023.
Both are in great form, so this match could go down to the wire. Rybakina has been on a roll for a while now, thus making her the favorite to win this title.
