Third seed Alexander Bublik will begin his campaign in Metz with his second-round matchup set against Ukraine’s Vitaliy Sachko.

After winning the title in Hangzhou, Bublik had a rough patch during the Asian Swing. He lost 3-6, 2-6 to Adrian Mannarino in Beijing and then fell 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 to eventual champion Valentin Vacherot in the first round of the Shanghai Masters.

He has bounced back since then. In Vienna, he reached the quarterfinals before losing 4-6, 4-6 to Jannik Sinner. Soon after, he made his first semifinal appearance at a Masters 1000 event, where he lost 6-7 (3), 4-6 to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Paris Masters.

Sachko, meanwhile, has spent most of his career playing in Challenger events. His recent results were not encouraging, as he had lost five of his last seven matches before Metz. He was knocked out in the second round of qualifying by Clement Tabur but made it into the main draw as a lucky loser.

Taking full advantage of the opportunity, he surprised many by earning his first ATP main-draw win, defeating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (10), 6-3 in the opening round.
