Frances Tiafoe, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Andrey Rublev struggled to make an impact this season. Despite being consistent performers in recent seasons, they were outplayed by their ATP peers.

Meanwhile, Jelena Ostapenko, Danielle Collins, and Karolina Muchova also had a mediocre season on the WTA side. Muchova and Collins reached multiple finals in 2024, but did not hit their stride in 2025.

The end of season will give the below players a chance to reset and analyze what went wrong on tour. Without further ado, let's look at five players who underperformed this year and should've done better.

#5 Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev was one set away from winning the 2024 Australian Open. He also reached the semifinals at Wimbledon and the quarterfinals of the US Open last year.

The Russian was expected to raise his level after a promising year, but couldn't hit top gear in 2025. He registered first-round exits at all four Majors and only captured one title in Almaty.

Interestingly, Medvedev reached nine finals on tour in 2023, including title-winning runs in Rotterdam, Dubai, Doha, Miami, and Rome. He's only captured one title since then and made four finals in the last two years.

The 29-year-old ended his year with a quarterfinal appearance in the Paris Masters. He will be eager to start the year well in 2026 by trying to go long at the Australian Open.

Frances Tiafoe’s inconsistent form continued in 2025. Apart from a runner-up finish in Houston, he couldn’t produce any standout results this year.

Tiafoe showed his class by reaching the semifinals of the US Open last year, but was eliminated in the third round in 2025. He also registered second-round exits at the Australian Open and Wimbledon Championships this year.

Tiafoe has yet to win a title since capturing the 2023 Stuttgart Open. He will be desperate to get things right and find his peak potential next year.

#3 Emma Navarro

Emma Navarro has shown glimpses of her top form in the last few years. However, looking back at her results this season, she could've done better.

The American chalked up 32 wins from 57 matches, including a title-winning run in the Merida Open. She also reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, but lost to Iga Swiatek in straight sets.

Navarro also struggled to make a valuable contribution on home soil. She chalked up early exits in Indian Wells, Miami, and New York this year. The 24-year-old was ranked inside the top 10 last year. She is currently ranked 15th on tour.

#2 Danielle Collins

Danielle Collins decided to extend her career after initially announcing plans to retire last year. She stunned the women's locker room by winning titles in Charleston and Miami in 2024.

However, the American couldn’t recapture that level in 2025. She exited before the fourth round at all four Majors and didn’t reach a single final on tour.

Collins did manage to defeat Iga Swiatek at the 2025 Italian Open. If she fine-tunes her approach and stays fit, she could have a good season on tour.

#1 Karolina Muchova

Karolina Muchova is one of the most talented players in her division. She secured a runner-up finish in the 2023 French Open and the semifinals of the US Open last year.

However, the Czech star couldn't find her level in 2025. She registered first-round exits in the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships. Muchova was ranked inside the top 10 in 2023. She is currently among the top 20 players on tour.

The 29-year-old ended her season with a quarterfinal appearance in Tokyo. She will be eager to find her peak and win titles in 2025.
