Roberta McCoy stepped forward and said:

“I’m giving in faith and standing in unity with the vision of Perfecting Church, sowing this seed of $1,000 plus $235 and receiving the blessings to come.”

Winans didn't accept her contribution, explaining:

“You’re not listening to what I’m saying. If you have $1,000 plus $1,000…”

McCoy said that she would bring the remaining $800 later, but Winans responded:

“Well, that ain’t what I asked you to do.”

The clip of the incident went viral on social media, with many criticizing Winans, who founded the Perfecting Church in 1989, for raising the confusion. Some also suggested that the pastor appeared to scold McCoy.

However, in an interview with ABC 7, published on October 22, both Winans and McCoy clarified that it wasn't the case. McCoy explained:

"He absolutely did not rebuke me. Now there's a difference. There was a correction, because, let me clearly state, pastor gave instruction on the lines to get into."

Winans also explained his stance, claiming that he was calling for donations in increments to avoid confusion. He said that as the whole church was coming on the day, he wanted to make sure the people kept moving. He also sent his apology to McCoy, as she also faced backlash after the video went viral.
