Kim Kardashian’s daughter North West has once again found herself at the centre of a social media debate after debuting a new piercing. According to The Mirror, SKIMS founder is being questioned by fans about her parenting after her daughter showed off a finger piercing in a TikTok video.North West, who Kim Kardashian shares with her ex-husband Kanye West, is 12 years old. While the pre-teen has been known for her bold and experimental sense of fashion and style, an expert has warned that her latest piercing could pose serious risks.According to Lad Bible, Jewellery expert Nilesh Rakholia has shared his views on the child star’s choice of body modification. Calling it a “particularly risky” one, the founder of the British jewellery brand Abelini explained:“While jewellery in all its forms is a powerful way of expressing individuality, finger piercings might look striking, but they come with added risks that people - especially someone so young - really need to be aware of. At just 12 years old, North is still developing, and any piercing at this age requires careful consideration.”While North West’s family members, including her mother, have previously come to her defence, the child star once again came under scrutiny after her recent post showed that she had two dermal piercings embedded in her fingers. One snap shows a pair of silver gems, while another captures a blue stone in the centre of her middle finger.For the unversed, the latest snaps come months after North West showed off a silver piercing during a trip with her mother in Rome in August. It is reportedly believed that the eldest daughter of Ye has a “dermal piercing”, a term that is used to describe any piercing which is done on a flat surface of the body.Expert warns North West to explore jewellery “responsibly”North West and Kim Kardashian (Image via Getty)In an article published by Lad Bible on November 13, 2025, Jewellery expert Nilesh Rakholia explained that people sporting dermal piercings on their fingers are at greater risk.“It’s constantly exposed to knocks, dirt and bacteria, making the risks of infection and complications far greater than with more traditional piercings.”While, as a businessman, he appeared to like the younger generation using jewellery “as a form of creativity and self-expression,” however, Rakholia claimed that jewellery must be explored “responsibly,” adding:“Trends should never outweigh health and well-being. For anyone - particularly young teens - considering a piercing like this, it’s vital to use a licensed professional, follow strict aftercare routines, and be mindful of the often lengthy and difficult healing period.”Notably, Rakholia also shared his thoughts on North West’s finger piercing and why he believes it has proved so controversial. He noted that children in the “public eye” often receive strong opinions, and explained that these conversations should be approached with empathy.“When it comes to body modifications at such a young age, health and safety must always take priority,” the jewellery expert added.Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian previously defended North for wearing faux face tattoos by reportedly replying, “This is such a non-issue,” after Daily Mail Australia captioned a TikTok video, "North West, 12, worries fans with new look.” The original video of North West and her friends wearing fake body modifications was first posted on the child star's TikTok account, which she shares with her mother.Kim Kardashian also spoke about her 12-year-old’s fashion choices during an appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast on October 15.“She’s really mature in one sense where she’ll be like, ‘Mom, I saw this and I don’t really care that they don’t like... my blue hair or this or that’...
