Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia had an impressive 2025 season, but ended the year with an ugly period. Pavia, a Heisman finalist, ultimately finished second in votes behind Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. He didn't take the news well, posting a message on Instagram that was captioned:"F-ALL THE VOTERS, BUT.....FAMILY FOR LIFE."He also reposted comments from Skip Bayless that backed him for the award, according to a Monday KSL report. The Instagram post was deleted, and Pavia posted his apology for the outburst on social media on X on Sunday, Dec. 14."Being a part of the Heisman ceremony last night as a finalist was such an honor," he posted on X. "As a competitor, just like in everything I do I wanted to win. To be so close to my dream and come up short was painful.I didn’t handle those emotions well at all and did not represent myself the way I wanted to. I have much love and respect for the Heisman voters and the selection process, and I apologize for being disrespectful. It was a mistake, and I am sorry."Fans reacted to the post, with many expecting consequences that will follow him to April's 2026 NFL Draft."Translation...I just dropped 6 rounds in the draft."More fans reacted. Two fans continued to pile on, but another took Pavia's side, cutting the Vanderbilt quarterback some slack."#DamageControl," one posted."Dude, you cost yourself two or three rounds in the draft. You did what you could do by apologizing, but damage is done," another posted."ngl i feel like yall are being too harsh on him, this sport is all about passion and hes showing it without being PR trained , he’s putting his heart on his sleeve and clearly showed he wanted it more than anyone so i think yall should chill 😭 i don’t want no damn players without spirit !!" another added.Pavia led the SEC in completion percentage, passing touchdowns and yards per attempt, going 10-2 in 2025. His only two losses were to the Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide.Diego Pavia sets expectations for final college gameDiego Pavia at Vanderbilt v Tennessee - Source: GettyWhile the bulk of Diego Pavia's Sunday post centered around cleaning up his actions after losing the Heisman vote, there was another notable tidbit for the quarterback of the Vanderbilt Commodores."I look forward to competing in front of my family and with my team one more time in the ReliaQuest Bowl," he wrote in the aforementioned X post. The announcement removes all doubt about Diego Pavia missing the ReliaQuest Bowl. Some college NFL prospects choose to hold themselves out of the Bowl games to remove the risk of injury. Others don't want to risk putting out bad tape.Either way, Pavia is set to battle the Iowa Hawkeyes on Wednesday, Dec. 31, in what will be his first action since he faced the Tennessee Volunteers in a 45-24 blowout on Nov. 29.
