Tyler Shough has been fantastic for the New Orleans Saints since he took over the starting quarterback role from Spencer Rattler. The rookie is obviously giving the franchise's front office new ideas around the 2026 NFL draft following his amazing start to life in the league.

Shough showed his potential as a runner on Sunday in the rivalry game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback scored the first rushing touchdown of his professional career as the Saints defeated the Buccaneers 24-20 to earn their third win of the season.

Tyler Shough received a shotgun snap on 1st & 10 in the early stages of the third quarter with the intention to make a pass play. However, the quarterback saw an open space and decided to take his chances. Evading the offensive line, he beat his markers to rush 33 yards into the end zone.

"Trying to get Taysom and just saw green grass,” Shough said in his postgame press conference regarding the initial plan. “I don't know, I blacked out. Just a great play by all the guys. Just a lot of fun, man. Proud of all those guys to finish."

Tyler Shough commends his teammates after the win

In his postgame press conference, Tyler Shough gave a thumbs-up to his teammates for the impressive team performance against the Buccaneers. The Saints pulled off the win at Raymond James Stadium despite the Buccaneers entering the game as an 8.5-point favorite.

“This is why you play football,” Shough said. “Coming here in the elements just with all your boys with all your teammates and we fought really hard. Really proud of the whole line, just kind of chugging along the whole way. It's a really good job in protection.

“The defense was making huge stops. I think we did a better job of being a little bit more complimentary. Just proud of all of our guys. It kind of took everybody. So, it was just a lot of fun. That's the kind of thing that resonates with me right now.”

Kellen Moore will be relying more on Tyler Shough after the rookie showed more prowess on the field in Week 14. The quarterback completed 13 of 20 passes for 144 yards while rushing for 55 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.
