Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy made headlines on Sunday for his controversial rant after the Las Vegas Raiders' 24–17 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Portnoy went on a fiery rant, alleging that the Raiders and Pete Carroll rigged the game after a meaningless 46-yard field goal changed the betting outcome of the game.

"That's the worst beat of all time!" Portnoy said. "You have to investigate the Raiders. Ivestigate the Raiders! What are they doing?! What the f**k?!! That's the worst beat of all time. That is cheating. What the f**k. ... This is the worst beat of all time. Pete Carroll should be in f*****g prison. Prison for Pete Carroll. ... The refs, everybody. This is prison!"

Portnoy, who had said "Murder Pete Carroll” in the video, issued an apology on Monday’s episode of “Wake Up Barstool."

"We don’t want harm, and don’t want physical violence. We don’t want threats. I disavow real violence,” Portnoy said. “Anybody who thought I was actually calling for him to be murdered and killed so he couldn’t breathe … you misread this situation, and I apologize.”

Portnoy explained that he was enraged after losing a quarter-million bet on an 8.5-point spread as the Raiders ended up losing by seven points, courtesy of the field goal in the final seconds.

"I would like to say this loudly, clearly, emphatically, we never want physical harm to anybody based on a decision, a play, anything,” Portnoy said. “However, in the moment, you may be upset by one of the wildest sequences that cost you a quarter million [dollars]. So it is a metaphorical murder.”

Raiders coach Pete Carroll caught strays from Dave Portnoy wdespite conventional decision

While Raiders coach Pete Carroll has been criticized for questionable decisions throughout the season, the Raiders coach had no option than to go for the field goal with the team trailing by 10 points.

In fact, the Raiders got the field goal attempt only because of a delay-of-game penalty on a Broncos defender with second remaining in the fourth quarter.
