The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Carolina Panthers 20-9 to deny their opponents a share of the NFC South lead. However, there was controversy in the aftermath.After the clock ran out, a massive brawl broke out between both sides. 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings slapped Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig in the helmet and then shoved him.However, ESPN later released a video showing Jennings had been punched in the groin.Jennings finished the game with five catches for 41 yards and a touchdown. Brock Purdy struggled, throwing three interceptions, two of them to Jaycee Horn. Moehrig, meanwhile, had eight tackles.The 49ers' best offensive weapon was Christian McCaffrey, who rushed 24 times for 89 yards and a touchdown and caught seven passes for 53 yards.For the Panthers, Bryce Young had a similarly mediocre night as Purdy, completing 18 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown to rookie Tetairoa McMillan, but also being intercepted twice by Ji'Ayir Brown.Jauan Jennings, Kyle Shanahan address brawl after 49ers-Panthers gameJauan Jennings, who had been punished for on-field incidents in the last two games of the previous season, discussed his scuffle with Tre'von Moehrig with reporters in the locker room:"TV is going to tell you what happened. I was just responding to me, to some childish behavior. That's all it was."He denied that he and Moehrig had had prior tensions:"It was just out of nowhere. Like I said, just the history of me playing ball. I play hard. I'm physically stronger than lot of DBs out there, so a lot of things happen in between the whistle, at least with me."Meanwhile, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan praised his player for mostly keeping his calm and not extending his actions to the opposing sideline:"Guy took a cheap shot, hit him in the balls and I’m real proud of Jauan for not losing his mind out there and getting to the sideline."The 49ers next visit the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
