The Browns acquired Shedeur Sanders with the 144th overall pick in this year's NFL draft. He was initially the third-string option behind veteran Joe Flacco and rookie Dillon Gabriel on the depth chart. However, after Flacco was traded to the Bengals and Gabriel was named as the QB1, Coach Prime's son took over as the backup role.

Shedeur entered Sunday's game against the Ravens in the second half after Gabriel suffered a concussion. He ended the night completing four of 16 passes for 47 yards and one interception.

"I don't know whether Shedeur Sanders is an NFL or not, and I don't blame anybody for assuming or surmising that he may not be," Smith said. "But how does he get zero snaps with first team? How is a player able to say they were unfamiliar with this snap count? He wasn't prepped at all. You're getting QB2, your QB1 is an undersized dude, a hit away from getting concussed and taken out of the game.
