"Time to call Derek Carr": NFL fans react as Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor miss practice ahead of Week 15 Jets vs Jaguars game

The New York Jets had some concerning news regarding their quarterbacks, Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, coach Aaron Glenn said that both the starting quarterback and the backup did not participate during Wednesday's practice session. The first team reps went to undrafted rookie Brady Cook.

"#Jets coach Aaron Glenn tells reporters that QBs Tyrod Taylor (groin) and Justin Fields (knee) won't practice today while Brady Cook will get all the first-team reps. They'll all be evaluated later in the week," Rapoport tweeted.

Fans on social media shared their reactions to the third-string quarterback getting first-team reps while Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor deal with their injuries.

"Things go from bad to worse but they have nothing to lose at this point," another fan said.

"This is basically a live audition for Brady Cook now. Reps like this don't come around often for a rookie," this fan wrote.

"Justin Fields man.... I just hope he can evolve out of this s****y slump he's in. Dudes got all the athleticism in the world he just has to translate it to on the field," another fan said.

"If Taylor or Fields bounce back quick, one of them starts. If not, Cook gets his first full NFL start... Think of it as a low-stakes audition for a team that's already out of playoff contention and just trying to end the season on a high note without more injuries," one fan wrote.

"Tough spot for the Jets with those injuries, but smart call giving Brady those reps to build depth. Wishing Tyrod and Justin speedy recoveries- rooting for this squad to rally and finish strong," this fan commented.

The Jets started the year with Justin Fields as the QB1 of the team. However, after a disappointing 2-8 start, he was replaced by Tyrod Taylor in Week 12. In nine games, Fields recorded 1,259 yards and seven TDs passing.

Taylor made his QB1 debut in a 23-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He led the Jets to victory against the Falcons in Week 12.

However, he injured his groin in the first quarter during last week's loss to the Dolphins. This led to Brady Cook taking over while the team suffered a 34-10 loss.

After being replaced by Tyrod Taylor as the Jets starter, Fields spoke publicly about the situation last month.

The quarterbacks said that initially, he was taken aback by the decision. However, he accepted his fate while vowing to improve his game.

"I didn't anticipate it whatsoever," Fields said. "The first day it happens, it's tough. It probably took me a day and a half to fully accept my role, then last Friday I felt myself in kind of a 'damn' moment where it was like, 'Yeah, it's actually real.'

"You can call it what you want, but A.G. thought it was justified and he makes the decisions around here- all I can do now is focus on myself, focus on my team and just try to get better each and every day."

The Jets are dead last in the AFC East with a 3-10 record. They are next scheduled to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
