Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones traded superstar linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers before the start of the 2025 season. Since then, the Packers have looked like one of the most balanced teams in the league, while the Cowboys have struggled defensively. Amid Dallas' defensive woes, Jones has come under scrutiny for not being able to keep Parsons on the team.

On Thursday, NBA legend Charles Barkley slammed Jones and the Cowboys for trading their best defensive player to Green Bay.

“They have us contractually obligated to talk about the Dallas Cowboys every day, even though their defense can’t stop a bloody nose," Barkley said. "Don’t trade your best defensive player and then whine about (how you) can’t stop anybody.”

A day after the Cowboys' 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 8 on Sunday, Jones opened up about the team's defensive problems.

"I don't know what's realistic," Cowboys owner and general manager Jones said. "Could one better player if we didn't pay too big a price to have a better player on defense? Could it possibly help? I'm not trying to be cute, that's why you'd go get it, is that you'd think it could help your defense."

"Are we one player away on defense? I think we're not, I think we're more than that away, but we're closer to than it looks in my mind, is executing better on defense."

The Cowboys (3-4-1) will face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9 on Monday. Dallas needs to string together a few wins in the coming weeks, or the team might not qualify for the playoffs.
