Shannon Sharpe has taken a hit at the strategy of the Philadelphia Eagles' coach, Nick Sirianni, regarding Jalen Hurts after the loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The Eagles blew up a 21-point lead, scoring no points for 40 minutes, to suffer a 24-21 loss to the Cowboys.

Speaking on an episode of “Nightcap” on Sunday night, Sharpe claims the Eagles coaching staff doesn't trust Hurts as they should, and this has been evident in a couple of their in-game decision-making. The analyst thinks that's not right for the caliber of quarterback they have in his discussion with Chad Ochocinco.

“I don't care what they say, they don't [trust Jalen Hurts],” Sharpe said (Timestamp: 2:40). “There are not a whole lot of people that have a quarterback that's won a Super Bowl MVP, that on 2nd & 17, they are handing the ball off. They are going to throw the ball. Let me try to get half of it back, Ocho.

“Now I got a manageable third down. I get all they're saying, Sirianni is gonna say all this stuff and I get all of that, but they don't trust him like they should trust him as a guy that started damn near his entire career in the NFL.”

“He came in as a backup. He got the starting job and he hasn't relinquished it. He's gone to the playoffs. He's been to two Super Bowls. He's won one and he's won a league and he won a Super Bowl MVP. They don't trust him like they should.”

Jalen Hurts completed 27 of 39 passes for 289 yards and a touchdown against the Cowboys. He also rushed for 33 yards and two touchdowns in seven carries, playing a role in all three scores. However, the play-calling in a number of scenarios suggests a lack of trust in him.

Jalen Hurts says the Eagles have to own the loss

Jalen Hurts offered his opinion on the disappointing loss to the Dallas Cowboys in his postgame press conference on Sunday. The quarterback believes the team has to take responsibility for the loss and address the main issues that made them throw away a three-touchdown lead.

“You look inward first,” Hurts said. “Looking at the things we can control from a penalty standpoint, an execution standpoint, those are all things we control.
“I don’t point towards how we adjusted or what we did or didn’t do. In the end, we had an opportunity to win the game and we didn’t. We’ve got to own this one, let it light a fire in us as a team and stay together and move forward.”

While the meltdown against the Cowboys was glaring, inconsistency has plagued the Jalen Hurts-led offense all season, demanding an urgent fix. The collapse only underscored the problem: two turnovers in the fourth quarter and a staggering 14 penalties on the night.
