After the showing, veteran analyst Bill Simmons compared Lawrence to fellow former first overall pick Jameis Winston. Simmons said,

"It's just a rollercoaster ride for three hours. Every time he goes back to pass, you don’t feel like anything good is going to happen."

He continued,

"I was thinking about him versus Jameis (Winston). Lawrence's career record now is 29-42; Jameis is 36-52. Lawrence has one playoff win; Jameis has zero playoff starts. Lawrence has 83 TDs/ 54 picks; Jameis has 154 TDs/ 112 picks."

Simmons concluded, saying,

"James' career was longer, and I think he was more entertaining. But they're basically the same QB, that's my point. I didn't realize that until I was watching both of them today, and I was like 'what's the difference between these two guys'? Something really good might happen, or something really terrible might happen."

The Cleveland Browns selected Jameis Winston as the first overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft. Winston has earned one Pro Bowl nod and appeared for four teams in his professional football career.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick of the 2021 draft. The Clemson Tigers product has since earned one Pro Bowl nod and hasn't led his side to a deep postseason run. He's looking to change that in the ongoing 2025 season.
