Aaron Glenn disclosed on Wednesday that Justin Fields will no longer be the starting quarterback for the New York Jets. Following another underwhelming outing in the 27-14 loss to the New England Patriots, Tyrod Taylor is set to start against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12.

Field reacted to the news of his demotion for the first time on Friday. The Jets insider for the New York Post, Brian Costello, approached the quarterback at his locker while he was going to get a massage. Costello asked him about his reaction to being demoted and Fields gave a swift response.

“There's no reaction. That's life. Sh*t happens," Fields said.

The benching of Justin Fields was expected a few weeks ago after Tyrod Taylor replaced him at halftime in the 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Aaron Glenn made it known in his media availability on Wednesday that Fields has an understanding of his decision to demote him as the starting quarterback.

“He understood my decision,” Glenn said. “Obviously, he's not happy with the decision and I don't expect him to be. But he understands and again, I have to make a decision as a head coach to try to do the best for this team and I feel like it was the best decision.”

Jeremy Ruckert unhappy with Justin Fields’ demotion

Jeremy Ruckert can't understand why things haven't worked out for Justin Fields despite believing he's put in the necessary effort. The Jets tight end, who played with Fields for two seasons at Ohio State, is disappointed with the benching but remains positive for the quarterback.

“That’s my guy,” Ruckert said. “Not really sure the exact things, I just know how much he cares about us. How much he puts on the line every day. I take it personal, all the hate and the talk that goes towards him, I take it personal because I’m one of the guys that takes the field with him.

“Wish we could’ve done a better job to help him out. He’s a true professional every day. Not gonna change how I feel about him. I’m sure he’ll be ready to go when his time comes.”

Justin Fields inked a two-year deal worth $40 million with the Jets during the offseason, and it's looking like they might be moving on from him at the end of the season. He's thrown for just 1,259 yards and seven touchdowns this season, ranking 30th among 33 qualified passers in total quarterback rating.
