Kayla Nicole's history with Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift draws "bitter" response from 'He Wasn't Man Enough' singer Toni Braxton

NFL influencer Kayla Nicole went viral on Oct. 31 after revealing her Halloween costume inspired by Toni Braxton's 2000 “He Wasn’t Man Enough” music video. She recreated Braxton's look with a metallic chain dress over a chrome bikini and even danced and lip-synced to the song.

Many fans interpreted the costume as a subtle message about her past relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

When Entertainment Tonight asked Toni Braxton about the costume on Nov. 21, she reacted with a smile.

“Kayla Nicole redid the video,” Braxton said. “She brought some resurgence to it.”

When the reporter explained that NFL fans and Swifties thought Nicole was taking a jab at Swift or Kelce, Braxton shut that down.

“I like to think that she was just paying homage to me and did it for Halloween,” she said.

However, as the reporter went on about the fan theories, Braxton seemed surprised.

“Sorry. Sorry. Oh, that’s bitter,” she said.

The reporter explained to Braxton about Taylor Swift’s album, "Life of a Showgirl" which has added to the speculation.

In the song “Opalite,” Swift sings lines that some listeners believe refer to Kelce’s past relationship.

“You were in it for real, she was in her phone and you were just a pose,” the lyrics read.

Though Swift never mentioned Nicole by name.

Kayla Nicole spoke about all the talk on the Nov. 8 episode of her Pre-Game podcast. She said the costume wasn’t meant to target anyone.

“I’m not in the business of tearing other women down,” Nicole said. “This was about celebrating an icon in my culture.”

Braxton’s song “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” released in 2000 was a major hit. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and won a Grammy.

Speaking in a separate interview published Nov. 21 by AP News, Toni Braxton said she was impressed with how the metallic chain dress over a chrome bikini fit Kayla Nicole perfectly.

“Her body is crazy,” Braxton said, adding that “the choreographer needs to be blessed and thanked.”

Braxton said she is grateful Nicole chose to honor her and loves seeing younger women connect with her music.

“I think she was just doing her thing, looking beautiful, and I'm just happy that she thought about me,” Braxton said.
