Super Bowl champion raises question on Travis Kelce's future amid retirement rumors after Chiefs-Cowboys game

Retired Super Bowl champion Chase Daniel believes Travis Kelce might not hang up his cleats anytime soon. On Thursday, the Chiefs suffered a disappointing 31-28 loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys.

In this Week 13 showdown, Kelce ended the night with 45 receiving yards in five receptions. He scored a receiving touchdown in the first quarter when Patrick Mahomes found him with a short pass in the end zone.

Daniel shared a clip of this play on social media while highlighting how the veteran tight end still has a lot left in his tank.

"Travis Kelce is not slowing down... makes me wonder if he's going to play another year," Daniel tweeted.

After a disappointing 2024 campaign and a Super Bowl LIX loss to the Eagles, the rumor mill started churning about Travis Kelce's potential retirement. However, the three-time Super Bowl champion decided to return for his 13th campaign with the Chiefs.

Back in February, the Daily Mail reported that Kelce's fiancee, Taylor Swift, had a big role to play in the TE's decision to play another season.

"The possibility of a 13th season is intruiging to both him and Swift because it happens to be her favorite number," the Daily Mail reported. "He has mentioned that he isn't very superstitious, but he has discussed with Taylor that this year would be his 13th year in the NFL, her favorite number and they have talked about how cool it would be for him to play this year, and if it were to be his last, how poetic it would be for them."

Kelce is also in the middle of his final year of the two-year $34.25 million extension he signed in April 2024. So far this season, he has tallied 719 yards and five TDs receiving while helping the Chiefs to a 6-6 record.

Travis Kelce opens up about his retirement plans

Last Friday, before their 23-20 OT victory over the Colts, the veteran TE was questioned about his retirement plans after the 2025 season.

Travis Kelce responded by stating that he will make a decision about his professional career before the start of the new league year in 2026.

"I think, you know, seeing my brother go through it and seeing how the league works, you know, this season kind of restarts in April," Kelce said. "I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not, vice versa, like whether they want me back or not.

"It's one of the things I'd like to make that decision before they gotta get draft picks in and free agency opens, so that gives them an opportunity to go out there and fill in the roster appropriately. So all that will be at the end of this season. I won't think about it until then."

Travis Kelce will turn 37 if he returns to play for the Chiefs in 2026. This season, he is the second-oldest TE in the league behind the Broncos' 41-year-old Marcedes Lewis.
