"Stop asking ": Penei Sewell's wife Isabelle calls out fake "mormon" reports on Lions star

Penei Sewell's wife, Isabelle, has reacted to the reports circulating about her husband on the internet. Last week, a media outlet, ML Football, shared a picture of the Detroit Lions' offensive tackle and, in the caption, said that he is a “Mormon.”

They further said that the NFL star is a member of the "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" and also went on a mission trip from 2017 to 2019.

Isabelle reshared the post on her Instagram Story with a long caption in which she clarified the report.

“He grew up Mormon, is no longer a Mormon and definitely didn’t go on a mission. His faith journey since then is his to share, but I had to say something because I’ve been getting so many messages. I have been sent this probably a hundred times today, so posting this so people stop asking lol,” she wrote.

Penei Sewell, who went to Oregon, is in his fifth NFL season after being the Lions' seventh overall pick in the 2021 draft. He and the Lions played against the Washington Commanders on Sunday and won the matchup 44–22, to go 6-3 on the season.

With the festive season around the corner, Penei Sewell’s wife, Isabelle, offered a rare glimpse of her Christmas setup on social media. She shared a video in collaboration with Rohde Design Studio.

Isabelle is excited to spend time with her family during the holiday season. She is enjoying her motherhood journey, taking care of three kids under the age of 3.

In an exclusive interview with People Magazine last month, she opened up about the NFL star’s schedule and how she manages to take care of their kids.

"It's hard when you're going through something and nobody else really understands ... having to navigate motherhood and parenthood alone during the season," Isabelle said. "So to have your core group of girlfriends also going through all the same things at the same time and being a part of the NFL, understanding those struggles on top of it, it's just been the best support system ever."

Isabelle and Penei Sewell started dating before the COVID-19 pandemic and tied the knot in 2024 after dating for a while. Last year, they also welcomed their third baby, Marley, in April, three months before they walked down the aisle. Their daughter Mila is 17 months old, while their elder son Malakai is 2.
