Stephen A. Smith warned Patrick Mahomes as he heads into the Chiefs’ Thanksgiving showdown against the Cowboys. The ESPN commentator asked if the Kansas City quarterback is capable of reversing the slide in his play.

With postseason positioning tightening and the schedule thinning, Smith framed the game as a test on whether Mahomes can steady the Chiefs.

"Patrick Mahomes is the answer," Smith said on Wednesday, via “First Take.” "Because as we look at the Dallas Cowboys ascending, look at Patrick Mahomes over the last three games. They're 1-2 in the month of November. They were 3-1 in the month of October. He was averaging over 29 points per game in October.

"In November, it's 24. His completion percentage was 73 in October. It's 58 in November. TD passes, he had 10. This month, he's got one."

Stephen A. Smith doubled down by forecasting a rough night for Kansas City in front of a holiday audience.

"The reality is that Patrick Mahomes has not looked good, and the chances of Kansas City winning on Thanksgiving in front of 50 million plus people with their playoff lives on the line in all likelihood, it's slim to none," Smith said.

The Chiefs (6-5) enter the holiday slate hovering above .500. Momentum has slipped, and with the AFC standings tightening, the margin for error has evaporated.

Dallas sits in a similar position, fighting to remain relevant in a crowded NFC race. A win on Thanksgiving would change its postseason trajectory, while a loss could accelerate internal urgency.

Mahomes said on Wednesday that Kansas City’s offense needs to rediscover its aggressiveness.

"They're coached really well by (Cowboys defensive coordinator) coach (Matt) Eberflus," Mahomes told reporters.
"They fly around to the football, and they're kind of in the same situation as us: It's all on the line. You've got to go out there, and every week, and play your best football. And they've responded these last few weeks, and played really good football. So, it'll be a great challenge for us."

Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott praised Mahomes heading into the matchup.

"Everything in his game, the way he plays it, at the end of the day, obviously talent jumps out, but you watch a guy who plays with pure passion, who'll do anything it takes to win," Prescott said.

The Chiefs will be without multiple starters, placing responsibility on the supporting cast while Mahomes attempts to regain rhythm.
