The Dallas Cowboys decided not to play their two top receivers, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, during the first drive of Monday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Coach Brian Schottenheimer decided to go with Ryan Flournoy, Jalen Tolbert, and KaVontate Turpin on a three-WR set.

On X, Skip Bayless shared a tweet expressing his perspective on the situation. According to him, the decision was taken as a "disciplinary punishment" for the two wide receivers.

"WHAT??? No CeeDee or Pickens on the first 3-and-out series??? Obviously some kind of disciplinary punishment," Bayless tweeted.

ESPN's Lisa Salters provided more context on the situation after talking with the Cowboys' PR staff. According to her, it was strictly coach Brian Schottenheimer's decision.

"I was told by the Cowboys PR that the reason that CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were not out on the field," Salters said. It was not an injury related situation. It was strictly a coach's decision. I asked was this punishment of some sort. And I was told, 'You'll have to address that with the coach.' But all I can tell you this that it was not injury related."

Lamb was then brought onto the field on the team's second drive. George Pickens followed suit a play later. In the first quarter, the Raiders took an early lead after Daniel Carlson converted a 35-yard field goal attempt.

However, Cowboys placekicker Brandon Aubrey responded with a 50-yard field goal of his own to level the playing field. The Raiders ended the first quarter with a 6-3 lead after Carlson scored another 45-yard field goal with two minutes left on the clock.

CeeDee Lamb scores a touchdown for the Cowboys in the second quarter

Despite missing out on the first drive of the game, Lamb was already locked in on the offense. Trailing the Raiders by 6-3 in the second quarter, Dak Prescott found his wide receiver with an 18-yard touchdown pass to give his team a four-point lead.

The quarterback scored another touchdown when he connected with tight end Jake Ferguson. Brandon Aubrey successfully converted the extra point, giving Brian Schottenheimer's team a 17-6 lead five minutes before halftime.

Both CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are the top two players on offense for Dallas with Dak Prescott as their quarterback. The $136 million WR missed three games this season due to an ankle injury before returning in Week 7. Lamb has tallied 491 yards on 35 receptions along with one receiving touchdown in six games.

On the other hand, the Cowboys acquired George Pickens via a trade with the Steelers in May. He has recorded 764 yards and six touchdowns receiving for the team in the nine games he's played.

Brian Schottenheimer and his team are 3-5-1 as they look to break their two-game losing streak on Monday against the Raiders.
