Sports journalist Bomani Jones highlighted Bills coach Sean McDermott’s lengthy tenure with the franchise, which has yielded little playoff success. Speaking on his podcast, "The Right Time with Bomani Jones," ahead of the Week 11 game against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Jones claimed the tenure might not last longer if the team doesn't achieve better results by the end of the year.

“If the Bills really come up disappointing this year," Jones said. "Let's say the Bills are a Wild Card team. Let's say the Bills lose in the first round. Sean McDermott’s getting fired, right?"

He explained why he thought so.

"He's been there a long time," Jones said. "My buddy Nick makes the point that no quarterback and coach have been together for this long ever without going to a Super Bowl. McDermott's had this job for eight years. This is year nine.

"The twenty years prior to this were much different, right? They missed the playoffs nineteen years in a row. It's been an uptick, but if they lose this game, they've got giant problems."

Sean McDermott has been the Buffalo Bills' head coach since 2017. Under him, the Bills have won multiple AFC East titles and made consistent playoff appearances. McDermott holds the highest winning percentage in franchise history, but Buffalo has yet to reach a Super Bowl during his tenure, repeatedly falling short in the AFC playoffs.

The Bills’ star quarterback, Josh Allen, has developed under McDermott. Allen recently signed a record-breaking six-year, $330 million contract.

Sean McDermott on wide receiver Mecole Hardman's addition to the team

On Friday, Sean McDermott discussed what newly signed receiver Mecole Hardman can bring to the team as the Bills' offense continues to struggle. Quarterback Josh Allen also recently acknowledged the offense has “got to be better." The Bills hope Hardman can help ahead of their Week 11 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

"Excited about that, you look at position versatility," McDermott said in a video conference. "That speed element is real."

Hardman, 27, joined Buffalo’s practice squad this week and is eligible for a call-up on Sunday. Hardman is a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs. Over his NFL career (80 games), he has 178 catches for 2,302 yards and 16 touchdowns, plus 190 rushing yards and return duties.

The Bills also signed veteran defensive end Morgan Fox to their practice squad for added pass-rush depth after Michael Hoecht’s injury. Fox, a nine-year NFL veteran, previously played for the Rams, Panthers and Chargers.
