On Saturday's episode of his show, Smith did not mince his words while going guns blazing on Jason Whitlock. In his rant, the ESPN analyst targeted his credibility and belittled his status as an NFL analyst.

"He brings up God a lot," Smith said. "Tell me what's God-like about about what he does. He talks smack about people, he ventures into the personal, he swears up and down and he knows stuff he can't possibly know. He does all of these things. And he hides behind a cloth of truth is what he's trying to swear that it is. But never telling the truth about himself. ... This is who you are. The lying a** that you are.

"You know you're the dude that slides tape recorders under hotel doors to try to listen to athlete conversations. ... This is the devil in the flesh. I'm talking right now to the people who work with him. Y'all are next. ... he turns on everybody. He will lie, he will deceive, he will do everything. Satan is his father."

The entire drama started when former NFL star Cam Newton called Drake Maye's success with the Patriots this season "fool's gold". He questioned their chances of a Super Bowl championship despite being the second-seeded team in the AFC with a 9-2 record while leading the AFC East.

On Wednesday, on the WEEI podcast, Drake Maye responded to Cam Newton's criticism, stating that he didn't even know which show Newton appeared on.

"I don't even know what show (Newton) is on. ... I just worry about what people in our organization think, and worry about we think and what my teammates think."

Drake Maye's comment did not sit well with Stephen A. Smith. He called the Patriots quarterback a "liar" while highlighting how ESPN's show "First Take" is a well-known program on the network. This is when Jason Whitlock called out Smith in a series of tweets on X while labeling the situation as "embarrassing."

Cam Newton doubles down on his "fool's gold" comment about Drake Maye and the Patriots

On Thursday, on ESPN's "First Take", Cam Newton doubled down on his comments about Maye and the Patriots following the quarterback's response.

He then highlighted why he considers their run as "fool's gold", stating that it is difficult to imagine star AFC quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson losing in the wild-card playoff rounds.

"I need him, as in Drake Maye, to understand this. Now, being in this position as a member of the media, there's a lot of things that are now always done, and it's always this.
"Now I did say that Patriots are fool's gold. ... Because there's not a soul in this beautiful gymnasium that would say they would take Maye over a wild card winner in Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Drake Maye- respectfully, you're having a great season. But I also put Drake Maye in a position where it's like- yo, we don't really know, similar to Jones."
