Jalen Hurts has more bark than bite. That’s according to Breiden Fehoko, a former nose tackle who has played with his share of elite college quarterbacks. Fehoko was teammates with Joe Burrow at LSU before the quarterback was taken first overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2020 NFL draft.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers player had this to say about the reigning Super Bowl MVP:
“Jalen Hurts is really Ryan Tannehill with elite quotes.”
A lot of criticism has been directed at Hurts for the Philadelphia Eagles’ struggles on offense. In the Eagles’ loss to the Bears earlier this week, Hurts threw two touchdown passes, though the team couldn’t score more than 15 points. On the ground, Hurts has been particularly poor, averaging just 3.9 yards per carry this season.

Hurts, like Tannehill, has been known as a very well-spoken person. Tannehill made one Pro Bowl during his NFL career, while Hurts has gone to two thus far. Tannehill never made it to a Super Bowl, whereas Hurts has been to two, winning once and setting a Super Bowl record for rushing yards in the big game by a quarterback.
While Burrow was the first off the board in the 2020 draft, Fehoko went undrafted that year and joined the Los Angeles Chargers with QB Justin Herbert as an undrafted free agent. He was waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this year and has yet to find a new team.
Hurts and the Eagles are on a two-game losing streak but still lead the NFC East with an 8-4 record.
Eagles must “embrace the challenge”
Fehoko is bang on with Hurts’ speaking ability, as the Eagles QB continues to say the things fans want to hear.
“We have to definitely stay together. Stay committed to what the team is trying to accomplish. In the end, no one ever said it was going to be easy, and we’ve got to embrace the challenge,” said Hurts at a press conference on Friday.
Hurts added that he bears a lot of responsibility for the team’s struggles offensively, particularly in the turnover department. He’s fumbled the ball four times this season, two of which were lost.
The Eagles pivot has been ripped by pundits, with Ryan Clark among them, saying:
“He’s killing this team.”
His current rushing-yard average is the lowest of his NFL career. This season seems to be following a trajectory similar to 2023, when the Eagles also got off to a hot start but fizzled down the stretch. They lost five of their final six games in the 2023 regular season from the beginning of December.
