Might Robert Saleh be returning to the Big Apple soon? Ever since returning to San Francisco after a disastrous head coaching stint with the New York Jets, the 49ers defensive coordinator has led a remarkable turnaround. The 49ers are 9-4 entering their bye week and are among the best in a few defensive categories, including third in defensive fumble recoveries at nine. This has made Saleh a hot commodity in the 2026 coaching search, with the New York Giants a possible option after they fired Brian Daboll. With a promising young quarterback in Jaxson Dart, a dynamic rookie running back Cam Skattebo and solid foundational pieces in wide receiver Malik Nabers and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, the Giants job will be one of the most coveted next season. But speaking on Josina Anderson's "The Exhibit Show", Saleh did not show any immediate interest:"I'm not thinking about it. I know you probably want an answer, but we got four weeks here. We’re in the middle of a playoff push."Still, he did express a desire to visit the city itself again:“I've got unbelievable memories of New York. It didn't work out the way I wanted, but it was still an unbelievable experience... Love New York. Love the fanbase. Love all of the chaos.”Titans, Raiders also linked to Robert SalehTwo more teams may pursue Robert Saleh in the offseason. The first team is the Tennessee Titans. Like the Giants, they have a young quarterback who will enter his second year in the NFL in 2026 in Cam Ward. Writing for the team's SBNation vertical Music City Miracles, Micah McKamey said Saleh would be a great fit."I believe this because of his former head coaching experience and his hard-nosed attitude, which is so opposite of Brian Callahan’s. ... His offensive coordinator connections, combined with his tough attitude and what he brings to the defensive side of the ball, make him too good to pass up on."Another team is the Las Vegas Raiders, who are enduring a nightmare season under Pete Carroll. They have already fired offensive coordinator Chip Kelly after his corps put up league-worst stats, including dead-last in rushing yards (905) despite the presence of Ashton Jeanty.Peter Panacy, contributor to the 49ers' FanSided vertical Niner Noise, explained what may entice Saleh to accept the Raiders job besides a high-paying long-term contract. According to Panacy, Crosby may be inclined to retain key defenders like edge rusher Maxx Crosby, as well as having a say in what quarterback and offensive coordinator he wants. But beyond that, he may provide stability to a franchise that has lacked it in recent seasons.
