The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. ET outside Sei Less, an Asian fusion restaurant on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue. According to law enforcement sources who spoke to the New York Post, a dispute escalated into violence, with the gunman firing two shots at Boyd. The cornerback was struck in the abdomen and lapsed in and out of consciousness before he was transported to Bellevue Hospital.

The suspected shooter fled the scene in a blue BMW X8 SUV following the shooting. A silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach also left the scene, although authorities have not clarified if there were multiple suspects or the connection between the two vehicles. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains active.

Law enforcement sources described Boyd's condition as "clinging to life" following the shooting.

Kris Boyd's NFL career

Kris Boyd entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 after playing college football for the Texas Longhorns. He has appeared in 81 games over his six-year professional career. He also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before signing a one-year $1.6 million contract with the Jets in March.

However, Boyd has not appeared in any regular-season games for New York after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in the preseason. The Jets placed him on injured reserve in August.
