Daniel Jones had been one of the biggest stories in the NFL for the first two months of the season. However, the Indianapolis Colts hit some turbulence after a 7-1 start, hitting a 1-3 skid. Well, the turbulence has turned into seemingly something much worse. Jones suffered a non-contact knee injury during Sunday's battle against the Jacksonville Jaguars.Colts fans around the world watched in horror as the quarterback took a few steps and sat down near the middle of the field. One former Colts punter posted his immediate reaction on social media. Pat McAfee posted on X on Sunday his affinity for Jones and his condolences for what took place."I love you Danny Dimes. I’m sorry man," he posted.Non-contact injuries are typically the worst-case scenario of injuries, and often signal the longest recovery timelines. Achilles and ACL tears are the most common types of non-contact injuries. Jones was confirmed to have an Achilles injury, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport."Colts QB Daniel Jones has been ruled out with an Achilles injury. Just awful," Rapoport posted. With Jones set to likely miss extended time, the Colts will have to lean on Riley Leonard. With Anthony Richardson on IR, the team is suddenly in a dark place.According to Indianapolis' official roster, Brett Rypien is on the team's practice squad and would seemingly be elevated to backup Leonard or start in future weeks, assuming Jones is unable to play.Daniel Jones-less Colts face brutal gauntlet to conclude 2025 seasonDaniel Jones at Houston Texans v Indianapolis Colts - NFL 2025 - Source: GettyWithout Daniel Jones, it will require the Indianapolis Colts to lean on Jonathan Taylor, and while nobody can write off the superstar running back, the road ahead looks objectively grim. The Colts will not face another sub-500 team for the rest of the season. After wrapping up Week 14, the Colts will face the 9-3 Seattle Seahawks in their building, the 9-4 San Francisco 49ers, the 8-4 Jacksonville Jaguars, and the 7-5 Houston Texans in their building.Without Jones, the team that woke up at 8-4 on Week 14 could end up finishing under .500, finishing the season with an 8-9 record. After a 7-1 start, such a turn of events would rank as one of the biggest collapses in recent NFL history.Of course, with still a month left, only a couple of wins could change everything and still potentially get the Colts into the postseason. Can the Colts rally, or will the 2025 season become a season ultimately to forget?
