New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen was questioned about why he was still in the organization despite coming with Brian Daboll. The coach was fired in mid-November, finishing his tenure with a 20-40-1 record in three and a half seasons with the "Big Blue."During a press conference on Tuesday, Schoen was asked about why he still had a job while Daboll was out of the team. He got defensive and put the responsibility on the ownership. “Yeah, I understand the question there,” Schoen said. “Again… my hand's in it just like [Daboll's] is. Ownership made a decision to move on. I'm going to do what I can to control what I can control, and that's support [interim head coach Mike Kafka] moving forward. I wish [Daboll] nothing but the best and we're going to do everything we can to get this franchise back to where it should be.”After Brian Daboll and Shane Bowen's firing, many fans have called for Joe Schoen to be released from his duties next. The Giants have shown potential in the 2025 season, but the 2-9 record they have after losing 33-15 to the New England Patriots on Monday tells a different story.Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has been the brightest spot for the Giants this season, but several late collapses have shown that they aren't ready to contend just yet. Joe Schoen outlines plans to find new Giants HC Joe Schoen touched on the Giants' plans to find Brian Daboll's successor. He noted that his job is to help interim head coach Mike Kafka succeed, and when the time comes, they will do the due diligence. "We're going to do everything we can right now to support [Mike] Kafka, that's our primary focus," Schoen said. "At the appropriate time, we'll get into potential coaches, research, and we'll do a thorough, collaborative research and come up with the best coach to lead the New York Giants going into the 2026 season."The Giants have a group of young players who can compete for many years in Dart, running back Cam Skattebo, wide receiver Malik Nabers and linebacker Abdul Carter. If they stay healthy and the team builds around them, the Giants will likely have a shot at the Super Bowl at some point. They are eliminated from playoff contention, and many fans are already thinking about next season.
