Shedeur Sanders is still officially the Cleveland Browns' backup quarterback, but at least one person thinks those days will end soon. After a 27-20 loss at the New York Jets, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that the AFC North's current cellar-dwellers would be sticking with Dillon Gabriel as their starter over his fellow rookie (via Yahoo Sports): “We’re going to stick with Dillon. Obviously, young players that you’re always trying to get one game better.”However, Jonathan Jones thinks Sanders will eventually get his first snaps as a starter. He said on CBS Sports HQ:"It's hard to say [the Browns] didn't lose today because of Dillon Gabriel. I don't know if it's this upcoming week, I don't know if it is this next week, but sooner rather than later, we will finally see the debut of Shedeur Sanders."As for Gabriel, he acknowledged that change would always be necessary -- even if it meant him being sent to the sidelines for Sanders (via the Mirror US):“When things aren’t going well, there is always going to be change because to keep doing the same thing and don’t change anything is insanity.”ALSO READ: Kevin Stefanski ends Shedeur Sanders speculation with latest Browns QB decision after 27-20 loss to JetsBrowns insider defends Kevin Stefanski’s Shedeur Sanders decisionOne proponent of keeping Shedeur Sanders on the bench is Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, who said in a YouTube video:“I still think it’s the right decision. There are eight games left, and at 2–7, they’re not going anywhere. So, what do they have to play for? … I think that time is going to come — but not yet. They want to give Dillon enough of an on-ramp to see what he can do, to let him develop.”She also touched on the offensive improvements made under offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, which may push coaching and management to hold on to Dillon Gabriel for at least a little longer:“They moved (Gabriel) out of the pocket more, took some downfield shots, used Malachi Corley a bit more — things they needed to do. There were still drops, sacks, and mistakes, but there’s something to build on.”Kickoff for the Brown’s next game against the Baltimore Ravens is at 1 pm ET on CBS.
