The Thursday Night Football matchup between the Cowboys and the Lions is crucial for Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott.

On Wednesday's episode of "ESPN Get Up," NFL insider Adam Schefter said Prescott will enter the MVP race if the Cowboys win. The win could be the Cowboys' fourth consecutive win, and it will help them extend their chances of making it to the playoffs.

"Dak cannot win the MVP if they do not win the game tonight," Schefter said. "There's no way that voters are picking an MVP on a team that doesn't even make it to playoffs. And if they don't win tonight, they're probably not going to make the playoffs.”

He also laid out the flip side.

"If they do win, I think Dak vaults himself right into that MVP conversation and if they do win – we've said this before – watch out for the Dallas Cowboys," Schefter said. "If you take a look at their schedule here down the stretch, if they find a way to win tonight it is favorable.

"You tell me down the stretch if they wouldn't be favored to win every one of those four games. There, they are. Their chance of winning are above 50% all four times. ... They'd have a chance to make some noise in the postseason and get where they haven't been in 30 years.”

Dak Prescott ranks near the top of the league with over 3,200 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and a passer rating above 10. Drake Maye, Jordan Love and Patrick Mahomes are the current leaders in the MVP race, but Prescott can turn things around.

Colin Cowherd on Dak Prescott ahead of Lions clash

As the Cowboys prepare for a crucial matchup against the Lions, Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd praised Dak Prescott's performance.

“He is currently guiding the No. 1 offense in the NFL, and he is doing it with a third head coach," Cowherd said on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd." “This is the best he’s ever played. He’s got at least five years left. ... This is what the great ones do. They rise above the environment. They are not held down.”

Cowherd also believes in the Cowboys' road to a comeback.

“Dallas plays Detroit on Thursday," he said. "I like Dallas in that game. They just beat Philly, and they just beat Kansas City. I thought they’d win four games this year.”

He added they can “win out” and return to the postseason.
